Mom's funny memories
I just loved reading your funny stories. I about fell over the dishwasher all over again reading Sarah's wash cloth blog. That story about dad is one of my favorites but I am still sorry, Stan.
I can remember many funny shorts. The time I got stuck between the bed and the dresser in our home in Sunset. Or the time at Yellowstone when I was running along with 5 year old Sarah and I stepped in a gopher hole and slammed her into the ground. Sarah survived obviously but I bet she didn't trust me after that. How about the time Jake came up missing but we could hear him calling out. The search was on and we found him locked in the propane heater in the family room of our home in Sunset. The tank was out for refueling and he had his famous pillow and pillowcase. He tucked himself inside and realized he couldn't get out. When we open the six inch door on the top panel there he was holding his pillow and sucking his index finger. How about when the boys used to tease Julie and she would use her big vocabulary on them. How Marie loved popping popcorn and how honestly hard she would laugh when it would pop. Marissa would always cry when I left her, (Yeah she was a momma's girl) and Aunt Lisa was sure she would only cry for a min but she cried the whole two hours we were gone. Lisa thought she would win but no one won with Marissa. She was strong willed then and now just a wise guy. Mark is the most famous for his being truly the only Momma's boy or girl in the family. Remember when at lunch he said he didn't want girl cheese he wanted a boy cheese sandwich. He would tell Sarah she could just swipe her card and he could get what he wanted or he would say "just so you know mom always buys me something when we go to the store." Then she bought him something. All of you spoiled him too so you can't just blame me for that kids!

This is a good one
So I don't remember exactly when this happened, but Mitch didn't know Mom very well. Actually it may have been one of his first times over. But I just remember Mom in the kitchen. She was probably doing dishes since the dishwasher door was open. We were all talking and I was at the kitchen table or something, but Mom was just chattin' up and walking. Suddenly she disappeared from view. I jumped up from the table and looked by the dishwasher and Mom had tripped and was laying flat on her back on top of the dishwasher door. Mitch didn't know whether to laugh or see if she was ok. But I am pretty sure the rest of us were just laughing. Love you Mommy!

I Can't Stop Laughing!- Julie
So I sitting in the computer lab at Weber's Social Science building and literally holding my breath, as I try to hold in the giggles. I am positive the people sitting next to me think I'm having a seizure or something because I'm shaking as I try to stifle my laughter. Oh that is probably ranked in my top 10 favorite family stories in the history of the Yamane family! Sorry papa bear!
Well I figure I better be one of the first to post a story before all the good ones get taken. Some of you may not have been there for this particular family night, and it involves Granny who is technically not a Yamane but I'll tell it anyway.
Granny's MS was acting up again and she was having a hard time talking. She was helping Grandpa with the lesson, they were talking about patriotism, and she was saying how in elementary school she used to say the "pwedge of weegence evwy day." (translation: the pledge of allegiance every day) Well being the loving and sensitive family that we are, everyone starts smiling and giggling to each other. Granny is such a good sport when we tease her. Then someone said, "Granny, you sound just like the priest on the Princess Bride!". Well Granny didn't know what we were talking about and so we had to show her! So we spent the rest of family night listening to grandma read lines from the movie, doing a perfect impersonaion of the goofy priest. Then Dad got out our DVD of the Princess Bride and we watched just that scene. Cute Granny just giggles to herself as she is watching the movie and then says "Das esactwy how I wuda said it!" :). Granny, you gotta love her! Maybe this was one of those "you had to be there" moments, I don't know.

Thanks Everyone!!!!! New Topic this week.
I don't know what everyone else thinks but I loved reading everyone's memories. I really wanted to hear from the little girls because I know they have memories that I wasn't there for. So this is my guilt trip for them!!!! And I have to agree with Matt, kids now are wimpy. (This includes my kids! I'm going to have to toughen then up!) We would fill a whole pillowcase! We were very dedicated to that mission.
Anyhow, moving on. This week I had a hard time picking a new topic because there are so many fun things to talk about. Crystal suggested family vacations or funny stories that just have to be written down. Matt's post made me think that we need to write down Yamane family famous sayings, for example, "It wasn't worth it!" from Mom.
I think I'm going to go with funny stories because like Crystal said this story is just too funny. It involves Mark, Dad, a wash cloth, and me. But I don't like to mention the fact that this story is partly my fault. I'm still sorry Daddy.
So I came home from work one night to find Mom and Lisa standing ten feet away from a crying Mark. His pants were around his ankles and they were spraying him with a hose. All the while, gagging and laughing. Mark had an accident of the number 2 kind and the Adults couldn't handle it. So I grabbed Mark and took him up to Mom and Dad's bathroom to clean him up. I gave him a bath and when I was done I hung the wet washcloth on the tub faucet. It was wet, it needed to dry out a little and I wasn't about to ring it out. It was poopy can you blame me.
With Mark taken care of I just went on with my night like normal. Later on I was on Mom and Dad's bed waiting for family prayer, I think. I can't remember who else was there except Mom. Dad was in the bathroom taking a bath. When he came out of the bathroom apparently he could smell poop. I didn't notice what he was doing right away. He went downstairs for a while and when he came back into the bedroom he was sniffing everywhere. He said, "There is poop somewhere. I can smell it everywhere I go." A light bulb turned on in my head. "Dad did you use that washcloth on the faucet?" I explained through my laughs that I had used that washcloth to clean up Mark's poop. Dad's face was livid. All he said was, "Why would you leave it out?" Then he went back into the bathroom and started another bath.
Mom and I were laughing so hard. I don't think Dad appreciated our laughing but it couldn't be helped. Mom was laughing so hard because she said that when Dad baths he really lathers up the washcloth and wipes his face thoroughly. Everytime I think about Dad sniffing around the whole house because he could smell poop "Everywhere he went," I have to chuckle. Again, sorry Dad!!!!!

Visiting Grandpa Yamane
Things I love about this picture:
1. Grandpa is willing to hold the babies and seems to actually like it (My grandpa Loosli would never even try it.).
2. Claire is trying to make a mad dash to her mother.
3. Lucy is showing her colorful personality while arching her back (we are working on that).
3. Grace is the star of the picture and gorgeous as usual.

I don't even know what blogging is...
Halloween, huh. I am pretty sure I was He-man once. If I ever dress up for Halloween again, which is pretty unlikely, I will be He-man again.
Every year Halloween meant filling pillowcases. That was it. I am sorry but all you younger kids are wussies. Sarah, Jake, and I would stay out til Dad was driving to only houses with the lights still on. Cause we were going to fill those pillowcases no matter who it killed (a.k.a. Dad). I am sorry Mom but I don't remember you ever taking me trick-or-treating. HAHA. Maybe you did, but you always did our make-up and got us ready.
I think I was in HK this one particular year, but my favorite Halloween story involves Mom, Lisa, and strollers. And someone called out, "Wide load!" enough said.
Other memories - gross Tasty's Donuts usually followed by "it wasn't worth it", full size candy bars at the Glausers, of course chili and breadsticks, I choose not to remember dressing up like a cheerleader, Marie hiding on the porch and making kids cry, definitely the dinosaur, carving pumpkins and scrapping the seeds out with that big metal spoon with the brown handle, stealing Jake's stash of candy, and I remember learning what "laced" meant because one year someone told parents to inspect ALL their kids' candy and I was afraid of being poisoned.
Anyways I hope that was enough! Love you all!

Mitch
I hope i am doing this right. Ha ha i think i got it to work this is my first time doing this too! Well my Halloween memories are a bit different than all yours probably. When i was little we had to drive around to different neighborhoods because there were not enough houses in one spot to last more than a couple of minutes. Lot more rural around us then. But it was still a lot of fun. I can't tell you how many times i stuffed straw up my sleeves and was a scarecrow. Go figure. But kudos to Sarah, that costume on sam was amazing! i loved his hair. This blog was a really good idea too! Im excited to see how it all works out!
